There are many exciting projects currently proposed or underway in Albany! Highlighted below is a list of major development projects. 540 San Pablo Ave
In October 2021, the City Council approved the plans for a major new mixed use rental housing project at the site of the former Albany Bowl. The City Council’s action approved the design of a project with 207 units of housing, including 21 units of affordable rental housing, and nearly 6,000 square feet of ground floor retail space.
SAHA Building
As of summer 2024, the Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA) development of a 62-unit affordable housing project at the corner of Washington Avenue and Cleveland Avenue in nearing completion! When finished, it will be the largest investment in affordable housing in the City of Albany in decades. This project, built on City of Albany property, is a public-private partnership that could not have been constructed without critical taxpayer-supported funding from Alameda County and the State of California.
San Pablo Specific Plan
In July, 2022, the City Council approved this Specific Plan, which resulted in zoning changes that intend to increase the vitality of San Pablo Avenue, allowing new mixed use housing developments and ground floor commercial uses.
